Thailand is home to some of the most amazing beaches in the world – and it’s said that the prettiest of them all are in the region of Krabi. And that doesn’t sound surprising at all. In fact, ‘The Beach’ starring Leonardo DiCaprio, was filmed here (Phi Phi Leh Island).
But don’t worry; you don’t need to rub elbows with tourists all the time. At Krabi, there’s something for everyone. Whether you want to avoid crowds or you’re looking for the wildest beach parties, you’re bound to find that special slice of paradise.
So if you’re ready, here are some of the most recommended beaches in Krabi:
Table of Contents
Railay Beach
Surrounded by towering limestone cliffs, Railay Beach is the best escape from all the hustle-and-bustle of popular tourist hotspots, such as Phuket or Bangkok. That’s because this piece of heaven is only accessible by boat.
But once here, you’ll be glad to have made the trip thanks to its long stretches of soft white sand and turquoise green waters. Despite having several bars, it’s still relatively more laidback here than at the mainland. Swim, snorkel, or simply relax with a cold beer on hand. If you’re adventurous, the cliffs here are perfect for climbing, too!
Phra Nang Cave Beach

A beach that’s as mystical as it is beautiful. Accessible by a short boat ride from Ao Nang, you can also get here on foot if you’re already at Railay. Aside from a golden shoreline and lush jungles around it, Phra Nang Cave Beach is also a sacred place for locals.
Legend has it that the cave south of the beach is home to a mythical Indian princess named Phra Nang, who was killed in a shipwreck. In another tale, she was a fisherman’s wife and she’d been waiting inside the cave for the return of her beloved.
Whichever story you like best, don’t forget to visit this cave that has been turned into a shrine. Inside you’ll find phallic-shaped statues where locals make offerings for a safe journey at sea.
Ton Sai Beach

Looking for cheap accommodation, delicious food, casual folks, and a good number of relaxed bars? Then Ton Sai Beach is for you. Popular among backpackers and rock climbers, no one really knows what makes this little gem between Ao Nang and Railey Beach so alluring. But people keep coming here anyway.
If you’re not up to scaling the cliffs, you can just chill at the many hip bars. Order a beer or cocktail, listen to some reggae, and stare into the horizon. You can also go kayaking or paddling at your own pace.
Hong Island

This is the main island in the Koh Hong group of islands, which is part of a National Marine Park. Hong Island is so named because of a lagoon at its center (‘hong’ meaning ‘chamber’). You can only access this via kayak and during low tide. The entrance is through an impressive cliff passage that’s surely worth a photograph.
Waters here change depending on the tides – from emerald green, to turquoise, and back. It’s definitely a sight not to be missed. For those who came to soak in the sun, there’s a long stretch of white sand with verdant forests as a backdrop along the island.
Klong Muang Beach
Perhaps the luxury capital of Krabi, Klong Muang is well-known for its 5-star hotels and resorts. It’s also relatively secluded, making it perfect for couples, honeymooners, and jetsetters who want to get over that jetlag.
Located just 30 minutes from Ao Nang, you can either come here by taxi or rent a scooter to drive yourself. With shallow waters and lots of trees offering their shade, this is the best beach for swimming.
Koh Poda Island
Just 25-30 minutes by boat from Ao Nang is the tiny paradise of Koh Poda (often just called Poda). For those with strict schedules and budgets, this is one island you won’t want to leave out of your itinerary.
In the best weather, waters are so clear they’re almost teal blue in color. Plus, there’s a coral reef about 20 meters from the shore, so you’re sure to spot some fish while you’re there. The best part? Not a lot of tourists. As long as the waters are not so choppy, you can go snorkeling or even diving.
Nopparat Thara Beach

More commonly known to locals as ‘Klong Haeng’, Nopparat Thara is where you escape the busyness of Ao Nang to enjoy picnics or a literal walk on the beach. Accommodations are cheaper than in the mainland. Plus there are interesting shops and restaurants in its more developed areas.
But the long stretch of beach is what keeps people coming. Quiet and picturesque, this place is highly recommended for couples and families. During a low tide, a sand bank becomes visible so you can even walk to the tiny island of Koh Khao Pak Klong.
Tub Kaek Beach

Want nothing more than to feel like you’re in your own private beach? Then head on over to Tub Kaek. This hidden gem has been the choice of tourists and expats thanks to its tranquillity. But surprisingly, it has very few people.
It may not have much to offer – just a few luxury resorts, a rocky beach not really good for swimming, and lots of trees – but it’s the best place to be in for catching some peace and quiet. Of course, don’t leave without catching the breath-taking sunset here.
